BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVES

After reading and studying the article in succession creating a successful RN first assistant practice, feeds will be able to

1 list traits that are usual to successful entrepreneurs;

2 discuss considerations for starting a business; and

3 describe the difference between various business erections (eg, sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation).

Many RN first assistants (RNFAs) dream of having their hold businesses and being their be in possession of bosses, but they may not be indisputable if they have the courage, determination, and expertise to tackle like a challenge. The Chinese philosopher Confucius said, "Choose a piece of work you love, and you will not at all have to work a day in your life." (1) (p73) Starting a business, however, inevitably involves drawn out hours, hard work, setbacks, and disappointments. This article and following articles in this series will provide a road map for starting an RNFA practice and may encourage a certain number of RNs to follow the path to becoming an entrepreneur

PRELIMINARY CONSIDERATIONS

The prospective entrepreneur first has to determine whether he or she has the right raw material to run an RNFA practice. The Small Business Administration's Women's Business Center has identified several traits universal to successful entrepreneurs. Nurses who are interested in starting an RNFA practice should assess themselves to determine if they have of the like kind traits as

* independence--in addition to working for profit, mostly entrepreneurs want to be their be in possession of bosses;

* an appetite for hard work--it is likely that initially, business holders will work long hours for little pay;

* self-confidence--coping with the risks of operating a business requires belief in oneself;

* discipline felicitous entrepreneurs concentrate on doing the greatest in number essential tasks rather than those that are easiest;

* dutiful judgment--the ability to think quickly and make wise decisions is essential;

* ability to accept change--entrepreneurs thrive in succession change and use it to their advantage;

* ability to handle stres entrepreneur focus onward the end result, not the proces of getting there; and

* drive to achieve--to entrepreneur profits ofttimes are secondary to personal succes (2)

Many potential entrepreneur promotes will convince themselves it is too late to start a business, that they should wait until they have enough coin to start an RNFA practice, or that they should be grateful for what they already have. (3) Perioperative fosters in the twenty-first century squander a large part of their lives at work, however, and if their professional and personal goals are not aligned, sooner or later they will be wrought up internal conflict. This conflict motivates entrepreneur to create the life they want. Entrepreneur guard to find satisfaction and succes in building relationships with clients and colleagues, controlling their acknowledge destiny, and doing something that they consider worthwhile. DETERMINING READINESS

A promote running his or her admit practice will have to make many decisions. Answering the following questions can help a someone determine whether he or she sooth to say is ready to be a business owner

* What are your main hardnesss and weaknesses?

* What would someone you know say are your main forces and weaknesses?

* What are your special talents, and in what patterns of situations do you use them? (5)

The Women's Business Center commends that prospective entrepreneurs complete the following exercises to determine for what cause prepared they are to start a business.

* Make an honorable appraisal of your personal skills and education. The meaning of this exercise is to identify all the things that you do well. This is a place to elaborate upon your successes, and no faults or doubts should be included.

* Focus onward business knowledge. Listing specific knowledge about running an RNFA practice will help you decide what skills you may ne to start a business.

* Evaluate decision-making abilities. Business possessors have to make many decisions, and individuals whose normal replication is to delegate problem solving may have difficulty running their hold practice. Remember two situations in which you solv a point to be solved [i]or[/i] settled successfully and two situations in which your decisions did not work well, then cast reproach on lessons learned from these situations.
