Gary M Bain, 54 Richland, Wash., died 24 January. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1970 with a extent in metallurgical engineering. After serving in the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1972 he worked upon graduate studies in materials science. His last position was as senior engineer for Framatome ANP (formerly Siemans Power Corp.). Bain had previously worked at Babcock and Wilcox Company in Lynchburg Va. His work was in fruit mechanical engineering and reactor field service. He authored numerous papers upon LWR fuel performance. Bain joined ASM in 1968
