Fluocinolone acetonide is a corticosteroid primarily used in dermatology to reduce skin inflammation and relieve itching. It is a synthetic hydrocortisone derivative. The fluorine substitution at position 9 in the steroid nucleus greatly enhances its activity. A typical dosage strength used in dermatology is 0.01–0.025%. One such cream is sold under the brand name Flucort-N and includes the antibiotic neomycin.Use Synalar as directed by your doctor.
Synalar is for external use only.
Apply a small amount of medicine to the affected area. Gently rub the medicine in until it is evenly distributed. Wash your hands after applying Synalar, unless your hands are part of treated area.
If Synalar is applied to a hairy site, the hair should be parted to allow the medicine direct contact with the skin.
Do not bandage or wrap the affected area unless directed otherwise by your doctor.
Although side effects from Synalar (Fluocinolone) are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
drying or cracking of the skin
acne
itching
burning
change in skin color
If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
severe skin rash
difficulty breathing or swallowing
wheezing
skin infection (redness, swelling, or oozing pus)
